Here are some resources to help you in the art of neighboring.

Summer Engagement Ideas



Casual Connections

1.     Move activities to your front yard instead of the backyard  

2.     Consistently visit your neighborhood park or pool

3.     Bring extra snacks and drinks to share at the park or pool

4.     Deliver items from your garden 

5.     Walk your dog around the neighborhood

6.     Host a free lemonade or ice cream stand in your driveway

7.     Offer to meet a need you may see within your neighborhood

8.     Join your HOA board as a way to meet more neighbors

9.     Do front yard sidewalk chalk, sparklers, free yard sale, etc...

10.  Have a fire-pit out front with extra s’mores for those passing by  



Organized Connections

1.     Organize a corn-hole tournament, or similar

2.     Invite neighbors to go on a walk or hiking 

3.     Host a 4th of July get together 

4.     Organize a small parade to include pets and kids decorate bikes

5.     Invite neighbors over to watch a big game, movie, or event

6.     Organize a trip to the zoo, or similar

7.     Host a water gun/balloon fight or slip ‘n slide event

8.     Start a book club

9.     Organize a pitch-in dessert night or outdoor picnic

10.   Invite neighbors to attend a local concert, event, or festival 



Tips for Neighboring 

DO – Pray for God to show up as you step out in faith to engage with your neighbors

DO – Carve out time and slow down your pace to prioritize engaging with your neighbors

DO – Keep your eyes open for natural opportunities to connect that may arise

DO – Include others for activities you might usually do alone

DO – Be willing to share a bit of your story with others as a way of breaking down barriers

DO – Set healthy and appropriate boundaries in your connection with neighbors 


DON’T Make your neighbors your “project” or have ulterior motives for loving them 

DON’T Turn down opportunities for your neighbors to serve or help you in return

DON’T Force time with others where it doesn’t seem natural and/or reciprocated 

DON’T Stop spending time with others just because they aren’t interested in spiritual things

DON’T Let fear of how others will respond keep you from reaching out to neighbors 

DON’T – Get discouraged, grow weary, or give up in doing good
